Traveling Today

I am traveling by car from Tennessee to South Dakota. I traveled through two states I had never been to before, Indiana and Illinois. Actually stopped for dinner in Illinois so I can say I visited that one. ( I will probably say I visited Indiana too). One thing I did notice today is that even though there was some roadwork being done on our route that the repair work did not really keep up with the repair need. Also as you go further west the distance between towns get farther. From my duh category, the farther north you go the colder it gets.

More Legally Free Music

I am going to start this week with two brand new blues songs. The first I have been super excited to see on the coming soon list. It is from Fiona Boyes called Chain Gang. It is a great synergy between old time blues and modern equipment. Also brand new in blues is Ghetto Blue from Mac Arnold's Blues Revival a live performance in the Albert King style of autobiographical songs. Great guitar work on this one saves it. Hair band revival time has come and I found two excellent artist with free songs this week. First is the band ruined by Sister Christian. Everything else Night Ranger did on their first two albums had a much harder edge, as does this single Growin' Up in California which just smokes. Speaking of smoking guitarist George Lynch formerly of Dokken has a new album and is giving away the first single Son of Scary  a sweet instrumental rocker that shows off his massive talent. Finally a Jimmy Buffet inspired tune from the Maldives called Tequila Sunday that has a more modern and rocky back beat but wouldn't make anyone in the south uncomfortable at all. Enjoy the tunes.

Cool Blog Worth Reading for Dog Lovers

My step mom turned me on to a cool blog yesterday. It is called From the Treat Bag or maybe it is auggiedoggy.com who knows. it is the fun real life adventures of her two golden retrievers Auggie and Ti and she really is pretty funny in how she presents everything. So take the time to laugh with her and her dogs.

New Free Books Worth Reading

Surprisingly I only had one spot open this week on the free books list. Fortunately I had two good books to choose from. The one I went with is from a new author, Mary Logue called Blood Country it is a mystery set in rural Wisconsin. It has pretty good reviews and likable characters so it should be enjoyable reading on a non existent budget. The other book was an entertaining weight loss book that also uses good principles for weight loss called The Case of the Unwanted pounds: A Weight Loss Mystery. It gets points also for a cover appropriate for the time of year. I did read the sample on this and as someone who has done a little studying on weight loss I can tell you that this will work and is pretty easy to follow. Enjoy the reading.

Doggy Crack Now at Amazon

Our favorite take it anywhere doggy treat
is now available at Amazon. We call it doggy crack because he will do just about anything for a lick. The good news is it is very low in calories and fits in your back pocket so you can take it anywhere. Chesty says bacon flavor is very good but the chicken may be better.

Fuzzy Was Awesome Today

Gluten Free Discounts at Amazon

I got an email from Amazon about a sale on some gluten free items. The coolest offer was for Pop Chips where if you buy a case of Pop Chips you get 5 free mp3 of your choosing. I personally recommend the barbecue flavor but that is because I am addicted to barbecue chips of any kind. These chips are all natural and have no artificial anything so good for everyone. (Rumors that preservatives in your food help you live longer are greatly exaggerated). If you want me to forward the whole email let me know.

New Additons to Worth Reading List

Time to add some new blood to my free book list. In honor of Halloween I have found a self published collection of  Halloween poem's called Witch. Football fans may be appalled at the loss of a kicker for the Saints, but mystery fans will enjoy The Dead Saint a nicely paced addition to the Bishop Lynn Peterson Series. For old time science fiction fans The Last Drop from authors L Sprague De Camp and L Ron Hubbard is another page turner worth adding to your digital library.

More Legally Free Music

I have been to the new artist page again at Amazon and have found couple of new songs worth downloading along with a great soulful piece I found in the blues section. Let us start with my favorite of the new ones On the Corner from the Twilight Singers is a nicely evocative piece for a band that leans toward a grunge sound. Next is The Rifles Long Way Back a folk/new wave sound that will cross formats and please your ears. My dance piece for the week is from Frankmusik. Ludicrous is the name of the song and it has a great beat and lyrics you can sing along with, which makes it perfect dance music. A pleasing pure pop song is always nice to have for those times when friends are over, so I recommend Blind Pilot's Keep You Right with a sweet melody and catchy lyrics. Finally the great soulful song I promised from The Back Alley Players, You Make Me Crazy is the title and Johnny Taylor would be proud to call it his own. As always the best thing is all this music is legally free.

Free Music Albums Now Legally Free

I found some free albums over at Amazon and they seem to come in two flavors.  First is the one I prefer, which is newer artist trying to get their name out. Second is sampler albums which either record companies trying to get their artist out or music festivals advertising for next year. On the Artist side I did find sweet little album in what I like to think of as the pop/grunge sound Quarterfly - Addiction Sampler. This is the sound Creed started and Train perfected, Quarterfly does it well. Also found a thoughtful hip hop/ rap album from Element B. Fresh. Born Fresh is the name of the album and this is not your aggrandize yourself music, instead it is a more mature sound and look at life's troubles. I like these better because it is one band and so the sound is more consistent. Sampler albums on the other hand have a number of bands on them, mostly unknown although you can get lucky like this Bloodshot Best of 2010 Sampler which has both Townes Van Zandt and Graham Parker on it. Most though are more like this CMJ 2009: The Bands, the City, The Music Vol 3 where the music is so scatter shot that you are better off taking the time to single out the songs you want. Then comes the genre samplers like Tad's Record Dance hall & Reggae Top Ten where the added question of whether you like the genre in question gets in the mix.
The good news, the music is free, the bad news, listen first to make sure you can stand it.

A Fun Read

Found this little short story Cake Whores of Mars on line and it reminded me of some of Heinlein's older fiction so I thought I would share it with you.

More Legally Free Music

New week and new free music. The first song on my list today is from Raven Quinn - Decadence is the song, and is a well crafted rocker with a social message. Next on my list is singer songwriter Kat Maslisch Bode - Poor Old Town is a soulful look at a dying town. Is it reggae or is it dance music? Somewhere in between is more accurate and Come into My Room is well worth listening to. A more traditional reggae song Cassandra from George Nook is also free this week and worth adding to your collection. Finally a blues piece to add to your collection. Fenton Robinsons' You Don't Know What Love Is falls somewhere between Johnnie Taylor and Bobby Blue Bland in sound which makes it all good. Enjoy the tunes

New Free Books Worth Reading

Since it is Monday, the publishers decided to start charging for some of last weeks free books. So I found some more. First on the list is Skulduggery Pleasant: Scepter of the Ancients a wonderful adventure targeted at a younger audience that will hold up with older readers who like both horror and fantasy. Next is another solid mystery Penumbra, set in the south in the early fifties, it really gives you a feel for the time without losing the mystery itself. Finally getting reading for the biggest meal of the year gets a little help from the guys at Gooseberry in Thanksgiving Cookbook, aptly named and easy to use. Enjoy

Trash for Treats.

Our puppy Chesty (the best looking Rottweiler ever) brought us some trash from the yard, expecting that we would attempt to bribe him to release it by offering him a treat. Could this work to clean up our yards and highways across the nation? Every time your child or puppy brings you trash to throw out you give them a small treat. Pretty soon you no longer have to give them a treat every time, just once in a while. Still, they will continue to bring you the trash that needs cleaning in the hope of receiving your approval. Still, you will continue to have less unsightly trash around. Wow, a new way to clean up America, Trash for Treats, brought to you by my favorite puppy.
